Another go for Helms Deep

The Evil of the White Hand


As our first go for Helms Deep was such a blast, two other Lotr-enthusiasts Kalle and Jaakko wanted to get their piece of action. This time I commanded the evil forces of Isengard as Jaakko my second in command, while Mikko, whom had stormed the deepening wall last time, was now defending it. Not a complete report this time, but plenty of pics and some high lights. You can familiarize yourself with the scenario and special rules from the report of the previous game.
 

Preparations

Of course I had painted (fine tuned) some of my Rohans I didn't quite finish last time;




And my assault ballistas were glued back together and given some paint
work and basing;

A few comments on the armies:

Isengard had a bit too many crossbows, even if they dropped quite a few defenders. Good side should have had banners for rohirrim and some throwing weapons would have been good too.

Only 3 royal guards and Eowyn (she must have been disguised) were left defending
the Hornburg gateway at round 10 as the rest of the RG took Theoden towards the keep

Conclusions / Victory points

We stopped the game around round 16. We agreed, that evil army would break, if we would have continued.

Good Victory points: 20

5 points if Gandalf survives
5 points if Aragorn survives
5 points for Breaking the Evil army
5 points if Gandalf can move into base contact with Theoden or Aragorn

Evil Victory points: 28

5 points for breaching the Hornburg Gate (or opening it from the inside)
5 points for destroying the culvert section of the Deeping Wall
5 points for moving 10 models off the South board edge or through the door to the Keep
5 points for killing Theoden
2 points each for every other named character killed: Hama; Grimbold, Eowyn & Haldir: 28

Mea culpa: if I haven't had the "Rohirrim charge hybris" (Theoden, Gamling with the Royal Standard, some Royal Guard with throwing spears, all mounted; I can kill everything!) and understood that inside the castle just isn't the best place for cavalry, I would have taken better care of the King and the Victory points might have been 25 - 23 for the good side :(
